
Penrith has many independent shops which we would thoroughly recommend exploring.
Penrith also has all major supermarkets plus booths which is a local independent chain and Cranston which is a very high-quality independent deli style supermarket.

We have many very high-quality pubs and restaurants nearby. All the pubs within a few miles radius are excellent. Penrith has many restaurants are very inequality and prices all of which are good.
is renowned for its Michelin starred and recommended restaurants of which there are many. Please ask for more details.

The local area has many attractions, including castles, beauty spots, historical places, and pictures Townsend villages. Ask us if you need any advice.
There’s plenty to do locally for people of all ages. We have climbing walls, swimming pools, play areas, watersports, outdoor activities, and anything else you can think of, all within a short distance.
I’m sure you can imagine there are far too many walks in the area for us to recommend just a handful. Please let us know what walks you are interested in and we will send you a few ideas.
There is a daily bus between Kendall and Penrith which goes through Hackthorpe a few times a day. There is also a bus in higher seasons which runs from Keswick through Ullswater and Hackthorpe to Penrith.
Taxis are numerous in the area but not always available. We recommend booking a taxi in advance if at all possible.
The larger lakes have boat services which are great to enhance a lakeside walk.
We have plenty of rainy days in the Lake District, but there’s still lots to do:
Locally we have museums, Rheged (cinema, shops, play area, caf….), climbing walls, swimming pool, towns to visit.
There are also historical houses locally and further afield. e.g. Dalemain, Levens, Hutton in the Forest, etc,.
Also slightly further away are the Motor Museum, Bobbin Mill, Wordsworth houses, Beatrix Potter, castles, and other museums and indoor spaces and art galleries.
Of course you still go for.a hike - as Alfred Wainwright said, “there’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing”.
